"Mathematics is fundamental, whether it's learning to count on your fingers or solving algebraic equations. Numbers are like building blocks of life. Like pieces of an enormous puzzle we refer to as the universe. We put them together, take them apart, move them around, give them names. They can be mysterious and complex yet they bring balance to the world." -Melissa

"Maths keeps my dementia away." -Mytheli

Well there we have it, the importance of Mathematics by fellow students of 4SB.

Whether using measurements in a recipe, calculating monthly bills or deciding if half a tank of gas will be enough to make the destination, we all use math.

At Home
Some people aren't even out of bed before encountering math. For instance, Setting an alarm and hitting snooze, they may quickly need to calculate the new time to wake up. Or they might step on a bathroom scale and decide that they’ll skip those extra calories at lunch and dinner. People on medication need to understand different dosages, whether in grams or millilitres. Recipes call for ounces and cups and teaspoons -all measurements, all math.

In Travel
Travellers often consider their miles-per-gallon to fuel up for trips. Air travellers need to know departure times and arrival schedules. They also need to know the weight of their luggage.

At School
Students can’t avoid math, most take it every day or at least every other day. Even in History, Physics and Chemistry classes they may need to know a little math. From looking at time of decades, centuries or eras to calculating how they’ll bring that B in Physics to an A, they’ll need basic math skills.

At the Store
Whether buying coffee or a car, basic principles of math are important. Purchasing decisions require some understanding of budgets and the cost and affordability of items from groceries to electronic gadgets to houses.

Pastimes
Even off-time can be math time. Football fans know passing stats and individual athletes, whether runners, bikers, or hikers, often have their own ways of charting their progress, from time to mileage to elevation.
